Orlando is known for its theme parks, but there’s none quite like Discovery Cove. This is an all-inclusive, tropical escape that blends animal interactions with aquatic relaxation and modern ease.
This oasis offers visitors the chance to snorkel with tropical fish, float down a lazy river, hand-feed exotic birds, and even swim with dolphins or sharks.
Unlike the hustle and bustle of traditional theme parks, Discovery Cove limits the number of guests allowed each day, creating an intimate and stress-free experience.
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Discovery Cove, from attractions and experiences to food, cabana rentals, ticket prices, and where to stay nearby.
What is Discovery Cove?

Discovery Cove is a sister park of SeaWorld and Aquatica and is owned by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, offering guests the chance to interact with marine life in a controlled, naturalistic environment.
Unlike traditional theme parks, there are no rides, just unique animal encounters and relaxing activities in a stunning island setting.
Top Attractions at Discovery Cove
The Grand Reef – Snorkeling with Tropical Fish and Rays

One of the most exciting experiences at Discovery Cove is The Grand Reef, where you can snorkel in a stunning, crystal-clear lagoon filled with thousands of tropical fish and graceful stingrays.
The reef is designed to mimic a natural ocean habitat, complete with sandy beaches and rock formations.
Guests can swim among vibrant schools of fish and even spot small sharks (safely behind glass). The water is a bit chilly, but wetsuits are provided to keep you comfortable.
Prepare to jump when you see stingrays coming your way underwater! At first, they can appear intimidating but are harmless. Learn more about them during designated educational sessions in the pool, taking place at set times throughout the day.
Explorer’s Aviary – Feed and Interact with Exotic Birds

For bird lovers, Explorer’s Aviary is a must-visit.
This lush, open-air habitat is home to hundreds of colorful and friendly birds from around the world. Guests can hand-feed birds like toucans, parrots, and ibis, making for incredible up-close encounters and photo opportunities.
The aviary is accessible via pathways or from the Wind-Away River, where you can float in and enter from the water.
Wind-Away River – The Ultimate Lazy River Experience

Unlike traditional lazy rivers, Discovery Cove’s Wind-Away River is an adventure in itself. This scenic waterway takes you through tropical landscapes, caves, and waterfalls while encountering fish and birds along the way.
Some sections are deep, but life vests and pool noodles are available for support. The current is not very strong. The fact that the route goes through the aviary makes this a standout lazy river experience.
Dolphin Lagoon – Swim with Dolphins

One of the highlights of Discovery Cove is the Dolphin Lagoon, where guests have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim with bottlenose dolphins.
During this 30-minute interactive session, trainers will introduce you to a friendly dolphin, teach you about their behavior, and even let you participate in a dorsal fin ride across the lagoon.
This experience is available as part of the Signature Dolphin Swim Package and requires advance reservations. A photographer is available on site to take pictures and photo packages are available for sale.
You are not allowed to bring your own GoPro, phone, or camera into the lagoon and photo. You also need to be wearing a wetsuit to enter the lagoon. These are provided free of charge, more details below when we start talking about equipment.
SeaVenture – An Underwater Walking Tour

For those who love marine life but don’t want to scuba dive, SeaVenture is a unique helmet-diving experience that allows you to walk along the floor of The Grand Reef.
Equipped with a specialized diving helmet that provides a constant air supply through a long tube, guests can explore underwater pathways, encounter fish and rays up close, and even stand inches away from sharks (behind a glass partition).
No diving experience is required, making this an accessible adventure for all. You can bring your own GoPro to take pictures and videos.
Swim with Sharks – A Thrill for the Brave

For adrenaline seekers, Discovery Cove offers a shark swim experience, where guests can enter the water with several species of sharks, including blacktip reef and nurse sharks.
Led by experienced animal trainers, this educational encounter allows you to learn about shark conservation while safely swimming alongside these incredible creatures. You will be snorkling rather than diving with the sharks.
Dining at Discovery Cove – All-Inclusive Food & Drinks

One of the biggest perks of Discovery Cove is that it’s all-inclusive, meaning food, drinks, and snacks are included with your admission.
Guests can enjoy unlimited meals, snacks, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day.
Breakfast
Start your day with a hearty breakfast buffet, featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, pastries, and yogurt.
There are also vegetarian options and gluten-free selections available. The main park area opens at 9am and first check-in is at 7:15am so arrive early to aim to finish breakfast in that time period and not take away from time allocated to the rest of the day’s activities.
Lunch
Lunch is served at Laguna Grill, where you can choose from dishes like grilled salmon, BBQ pulled pork, chicken tenders, fresh salads, and burgers. The portions are generous, and there are plenty of options to satisfy different tastes.
There are also speciality items depending on the day. When I was there, someone was making tacos to order.
Snacks & Drinks
Throughout the day, you can grab unlimited snacks, including soft pretzels, chips, fresh fruit, and cookies. Non-alcoholic beverages like soda, lemonade, and coffee are included, as well as beer, wine, and select cocktails for guests 21 and older.
The Premium Drink Package is an extra $5 per person and includes unlimited alcoholic beverages, including signature cocktails, frozen cocktails, and mixed drinks, in addition to beer and wine.

Where to Stay Nearby
If you’re visiting Discovery Cove, staying at a nearby hotel can enhance your trip. Here are three great options at different price points:
CocoKey Resort & Water Park (Budget-Friendly)

The CocoKey Resort is unique in that you don’t need to leave the property to have fun, there’s a water park on site! There’s also a karaoke room, arcade, cotton candy machine, pools, stores, and more. You could spend the day just hanging out at the hotel.
They are family friendly and have on site gated parking for guests that is free of charge.
Location: About 10 minutes away.
Courtyard by Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes (Mid-Range Comfort)

The Courtyard by Marriott Orlando South/Grande Lakes Area opened in March 2025 and is a comfortable stay with the bonus of being a Marriott property (my favorite brand, I’m a gold member!).
They have fruit infused water, an on-site restaurant and bar in the lobby, seating spaces with private televisions, an outdoor pool, and a fridge and microwave in the rooms.
There is ample free on-site parking and a 24 hour front desk attendant.
Location: 5 minutes away.
The Florida Hotel & Conference Center (Upscale & Convenient)

The Florida Hotel is connected to the Florida Mall and has an elegant feel, with a majestic fountain at the entrance, chandeliers lining the lobby, and event rooms on the second floor.
Despite being attached to a mall, my sleep was surprisingly restful. There’s also a Chick-fil-A and Starbucks on the hotel property, as well as a bar for guests only.
There is tons of parking, both for the mall and a separate gated section for guests.
Location: 15 minutes away.
